SCROLL
WHAT IS IT?
A end-to-end journey as an actual participant or volunteer at a community sport, followed by a workshop to share our learnings.
The trick is, we will let you will experience it all...
The good, and the bad.
WHY 'THE SPORT EXPERIENCE'?
The experiences we provide across our sport plays a hugely significant role in whether we have a positive impact in our work.
The evidence (and our intuition) tells us that a positive experience plays a large role in the recruitment of participants and volunteers, and their retention.
What we have also seen is that experience we promote and provide decides whether:
-
If people will want to sign up for our sport - or not!
-
If it meets their expectations when they show up
-
If they will share positive things with their friends and family about our sport
-
And ultimately - if they want to stay involved in our sport as participants, members or volunteers!
So for all these reasons, we would like to invite you to this 'Sport Experience Immersion' Workshop, where you will participate in a mock community sports experience, and learn practical lessons that you can take away and use in your work.
WHAT DOES AN 'IMMERSION' MEAN??
We want to ensure you walk away from this having learnt something that you can apply, and we all know that we all learn best by actually experiencing something.

So, on the day, and before, we will immerse you in a sporting experience, in this case, a social basketball tournament.
The communications before it, plus the actual at-club and on-court experience.

We also know that we need actionable learnings, so after you participate in the activity, we will workshop ways that you can apply these learnings in your own work.

"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."
- Maya Angelou
OK, SO WHAT IS ACTUALLY INVOLVED?
The workshop, the on-the-day experience, and the communications you will receive prior to the day are being facilitated by Andrew O'Loughlin and Sport Experience Design, in collaboration with the ASC Participation team.

You will experience what it’s like to be involved in our sports as a participant, which obviously may not be new to you, but it will provide an opportunity to go back to feel what it is like to be in your participant or volunteer's shoes.
What is special, and a little bit different is that you will participate in a good, and sometimes not-so-good experience, so that you get a genuine feeling for what it’s like to walk in the shoes of a participant who gets a good, or a bad experience in our sports.
The trick is, we won’t tell you when you’re getting a good or bad experience leading up to the session, or during it, but we will look forward to your perspectives when we workshop it afterwards!

THE WORkSHOP

In the second part of the morning of June 7, we will all take part in a workshop to share our experiences, our learnings, and some actions to take away and use in our work.

And so...

THE EXPERIENCE STARTS NOW...

Over the coming weeks leading up to our event, you will receive information from us.

PLEASE NOTE - ALL THE INTERACTIONS AND EXPERIENCES
WILL BE BASED ON REAL-LIFE EVENTS AND EXAMPLES THAT WE ALL SEE IN OUR SPORT.
