And ultimately, the experience you provide will matter the most. It is what people want, an experience is what they expect, and what they will judge you on. This is a new way of working. Our world has changed, so we need new ways of designing and delivering your active sport sessions, events, and programs. Bringing innovative approaches like Design Thinking and Behavioural Psychology to your participation experiences, and the ways of working that are starting to dominate in the leaders of sport. 6 SPORT EXPERIENCE DESIGNING Introducing... Sport Experience Design! 7 WHAT IS ‘SPORT EXPERIENCE DESIGN’? Some questions for you to ask and answer with your team…. What is Sport Experience Design? For you, and it may be valuable to ask these with your team! What is your intention with your Experiences? What influence do you want to have? What influence do you need to have? What do you need to make people aware of? What do you want people to do? What do you want them to Sign Up for? Show Up to? Share? Do you need people to Show up again? What do you want them to think and feel? What do you want them to say about you? 8 SPORT EXPERIENCE DESIGN PRINCIPLES What People do you need to focus on? Or want to focus on? Your audiences? Your team and stakeholders? Before we work on the Purpose of your Experiences, what is your Purpose? Why do you work in sport or the ‘active world’? And what Purpose can you achieve with the experiences that you provide? What Partners, what People, Stakeholders are most important and valuable for you to be collaborate with? Those close to you, and those less connected to you. Who might provide value in designing your experiences? What Positive Influence are you having with your experiences? What positive impact can you have? What types of value are you providing to people? At an individual level, at a functional, emotional and social measures? At an organisational level, strategically, commercially? To the wider world, at a community level, for society, on a economic, and environmental level? What positive influence are you having? What influence could you have?? 9 THE SPORT EXPERIENCE DESIGN PROCESS - 3 STEPS Do you have a process for the design of your experiences? Is it worth developing this further? Think about some of the steps, and cycles that are going to give you the most momentum, and make the most of your knowledge and creativity. Can you take some time to do some divergent, creative thinking. Can you use some more robust evidence, and relevant experiences to design your event experience? Can you refine your process to ensure you are converging on some specific plans, and testing these decisions, to learn from them and evolve them further? The following steps will give you some ideas on how to do this. 10 THE 9 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS What are the main types of experiences, the activities and interactions that your event or sessions provide? Who are the main groups of People that are involved? What are the key Milestones and Moments across your experience? In the campaign before, and the actual event itself, and after the event, leading to the next event? What are the main places you interact with your audience? The physical locations, and the online platforms, the channels and modes of interaction that you have with your audience? 17. THE INFLUENCE OF PROVIDERS - You and Your Team What influence can you have right now? And in who? Before or during your experience? What influence can it have aftewards? In your audience's interests? Their thoughts or actions? Their beliefs? Their lifestyles? What momentum can you ignite? What movement could you create? What will people think during your experience? What will they feel? What will they do? What do you need them to do? When they see it? To sign up? To show up? To share the experience? To sign up and show up again? REMEMBER - People never forget how you make them feel. What will (or do) they say and share about your experience? Do some moments, some experiences stand out from the rest? Do some matter more? 18 THE INFLUENCE ON PEOPLE - Your Participants and your Very Important People Who is your experience for? What groups or segments? Can you describe an individual persona within this group? By demographics, but also what they are thinking, feeling and doing? What they are saying? What they are seeing and hearing around them? What is the context they are living within, that is relevant to you? So many questions!
